PITJAU - The new indoor ball game from Denmark

PITJAU - Das neue Indoor-Ballspiel aus Dänemark

A review of the new activity game for all ages

A few weeks ago, while browsing TikTok, I stumbled upon a video that piqued my interest. It was about a new indoor ball game called Pitjau, which many TikTok users were enthusiastically playing. As I'm always looking for new leisure activities, I decided to try Pitjau and share my experience with this new indoor ball game from Denmark.

What is Pitjau?

Pitjau is ideal for anyone who wants to be active indoors. The ball is very light, so you don't have to worry about breaking anything while playing. The game also doesn't require much space – about 5-8 m² – meaning it can be played in a living room, vacation home, or office.

The game is simple to play. All you need is a ring the size of a small hula hoop, standing upright on a height-adjustable stand. The ball is blown a few times before being hit through the ring with an open hand. The opponent then has 3 hits/touches to get the ball back through the ring.

I played Pitjau with friends in the living room and it was a lot of fun. We decided to play 1 against 1 around the ring with multiple participants. The game requires both technique and power, as the ball can be hit with the same force as in tennis or volleyball, but its flight stops after 2-5 meters and then gently falls to the ground. With some practice, you can also spin the ball to force your opponent into difficult shots. This gives the game a new dimension and different duels than other ball games.

The game can be played in various modes, such as 1 against 1, around the ring with multiple participants, or in doubles 2 against 2. Despite the small playing field and the light ball, you can expend a lot of energy in a Pitjau game.

A major advantage of Pitjau is that it's suitable for all ages. Because the ball is so light, children and older people can easily play along. Another advantage is that it's an indoor game that can be played in any weather. Furthermore, the game is quick to set up and easy to store and transport, as it takes up no more space than a camera tripod and weighs about 1 kg in total.

The only downside to Pitjau is that it might be too simple for some. There's only one ring and one ball, meaning there are no complex rules or tactical considerations. The game is simple and fun, but it might become monotonous for some after a while.

Overall, I really enjoyed Pitjau. It's a great way to be active and have fun indoors, whether with friends or family. The game is easy to learn and doesn't require much space or equipment. It's definitely a recommendation for anyone looking for a new leisure activity and who enjoys playing with others.
